Defending Best Friends

Posted by karenandkurt on June 21, 2010 at 2:54 PM Comments comments (0)

This is the most stupid thing I think I have ever heard:

There is a movement afoot to do away with childhood and young person best friendships on the premise that they encourage cliques, exclusion and bullying behaviors. Additionally, they expose children and young people to the possible heartbreak that occurs when these friendships break-up. The idea goes that if every child is friends with every other child in her classroom, year or group then nobody will be mean to anybo...

Last blog before home

Well, my dears, here we are on the last full day of the cruise and our honeymoon. Last night was the second formal dinner, which we shared with Adam and Rachel, our new friends who are also on their honeymoon. Yesterday we spent the afternoon in the Solarium, reading and swimming (yes, folks, Kurt actually got into a pool while on cruise!). After dinner, we went to the Boleros lounge for Cuban music and dancing.

This morning I went to the workshop on how to fold the towel a...

Labadee, Labadah, Labadozey

We are at sea once more, this time heading north though the Bahaman islands and towards home. Yesterday, Wednesday, was spent on Labadee in Haiti. We tried to do some shopping in the artisan village and spent part of the afternoon laying on the beach and swimming in the bay. The water is such a color of blue – not the cold grey blue of Lake Erie or the deep dark blue of the Chesapeake Bay, but an aqua-green-blue that is unbelievable. Clear turquoise waters.

We skipped...

The Report from San Juan & St. Thomas

Posted by karenandkurt on June 9, 2010 at 5:17 PM Comments comments (0)

We are docked in Samana, Dominican Republic, for today, which is Tuesday. We’ve spent the past two days first in Puerto Rico and then in St. Thomas. We haven’t been able to see much of the two islands but we did get to visit the Bacardi rum factory and then a walk through San Juan to Café Berlin for dinner; in St. Thomas we went to the downtown for lunch on a patio bar (where we met the restaurant cook, named Cat, who was a just the nicest person), after which we found a liqu...

Heading to San Juan

Posted by karenandkurt on June 6, 2010 at 11:07 AM Comments comments (1)

We are playing Trivia in the Spotlight Lounge after a nice breakfast. We are preparing to dock in San Juan, Puerto Rico, for the day where we’ll go to the Rum Factory (Me gusta rom!) and then we plan to have dinner in Café Berlin.

Seas have been calm and we’ve been spending the days up on the Solarium, where Kurt has made friends with Mike the Bartender. It’s been delightful to sit and read uninterrupted! We had our picture taken with the captain and ...

Somewhere on the Atlantic Ocean

Greetings from off the coast of the southern United States! Kurt and I wrapped up our visit to Williamsburg this morning and headed to Norfolk and our ship, the Enchantment of the Seas. We spent yesterday shopping in the outlets and then over to the Governor’s Palace for a tour in the afternoon and then ending our trip with a second ghost tour – it was more of a theatrical production with scripted acting.

We had the best pizza, too! We did a quick dinner before ...

On the honeymoon!

Posted by karenandkurt on June 2, 2010 at 1:34 PM Comments comments (2)

Greetings from Williamsburg! We made it down to Colonial Williamsburg on Monday without difficulties. Tommy is housesitting and then Dave will take care of things for us. Luca has been warned not to bite their toes – but they haven’t been warned not to leave their toes unattended. Emily was a terrific help these past few days. She flew out from California on Thursday evening to be both bridesmaid and Girl Friday. Apparently, she is also the best groomsitter ever. We offered to kee...

Okay, so Google really rocks. Today was Google-Pac Man day and, because you were worried, I’m still good at Pac Man! Woo-hoo! A great thing for a search engine to give us on a Friday.

And, it is Friday – the wedding is in seven days!!! We have somehow gone from 100 days in Florida to in seven days we move into the

Base Jumping = Wedding Planning

Posted by karenandkurt on May 11, 2010 at 11:58 AM Comments comments (0)

I’ve spent all day trying to think of a witty or interesting blog topic. Garden? Done. Clarks? Nothing for now, lots for the summer. Latest wedding update? Done in 18 days.

So, I did what I do best: surf. Found my way up to CNN Living and the following quote on Problems Are Bad:

"But people without real problems go mad and invent things like base jumping and wedding planning."

The Wedding and Garden

Posted by karenandkurt on May 3, 2010 at 2:32 PM Comments comments (1)

Sunday was spent in the garden. And it was a day well-spent.

On Saturday, Margaret, Gracie, the boys and I went down to Chesapeake Beach for the “pre-wedding” hairstyle-trial. The lady who did my hair was a dear and we looked over her book of hairstyles she had done with other brides. We found a good-looking one that lifts the hair up but leaves some long down the neck. She also trimmed my hair.

Margaret has the pictures, so if you’re curious, check ...
